Tero is a health & wellbeing expert, with a lifelong interest in consciousness evolution
Tero was born and grew up in Finland, but spent part of his childhood in Iraq; “I was born out of Fire and Ice”, as he sometimes describes his early years. At the age of 13 Tero received his first Tarot deck. This was a pivotal moment, and one which would profoundly shape his future. Initially Tero was using the cards for fortune-telling, before becoming aware of the deeper meaning and power of Tarot. Tero describes the Tarot as a “Medieval picture-book, which speaks to the modern traveller through its images. Tarot has existed at least for 600 years, and in that time has got to know the human heart inside out”. Tero is also a trained LogoArt Instructor, which combines Viktor Frankl’s Logotherapy (a form of existential psychotherapy) and Steinerian Art Therapy. It is from this angle that Tero uses the cards: to help clients better navigate through uncertain or challenging times, to access wisdom within, and to find healing, hope and answers to their questions.
Before moving to London in 2015, Tero worked as a nurse in neurosurgery intensive care in Helsinki for 11 years. This taught him to appreciate life even more, and to truly live in the moment – “Memento Mori”, but also “Memento Vivere”. Before deciding to become a nurse, Tero studied complementary medicine, spesialising in phytotherapy or herbal medicine. The training also focused on nutritional therapy. Healthy living, herbs and plant medicine, Hatha Yoga – these were part of Tero’s childhood as well, thanks to his “witchy grandmother”.
After many years of nursing and working night shifts, Tero began to notice some unwelcomed changes: constant back pains, high stress levels, immune system functioning poorly. This lead him to start weekly Tai Chi and Qigong classes. Impressed by the positive changes, Tero decided to do something more radical: he moved to Wudang Mountains, China, to spend nine months there. This was his “rebirth journey”, which allowed him to focus completely on learning in-depth the Chinese Internal Martial Arts.
Tero is currently based in Chiswick, where he spends his free time practising Tai Chi and Qigong by the river, and tuning into Nature. The River Thames is a great teacher, showing us the importance of Flow in life. Tero likes to see himself as an “Emissary of Health-Consciousness”. An avid fan of C.G. Jung, Tero continues to explore and expand his knowledge and wisdom of both Tarot and Tai Chi / Qigong. “At a glance, the two might seem very different [Tai Chi and Tarot], but if you think about it, they’re actually not. Both are methods of accessing the internal, finding our true Centre, or True North. It’s about aligning yourself with your Self. Tarot works more via brain, via analytical thinking and intuition, whereas Tai Chi and Qigong work via the body-mind. But ultimately, the goal is the same; to become more You.”
