This class is designed to cultivate balance and strength by blending both Yin and Yang aspects into one class. We will also start off by doing a Nadi Shodhana Pranayama exercise, which is designed to balance both the Masculine and Feminine energies in the body and the brain.

What is Yin x Yang Yoga?

Most of us will prefer one style more than the other, but we all need to include both to have a well-rounded balanced practice, which helps with balancing both the masculine and feminine energies in our bodies.

Taoism describes the two energies present in everything; from our food and our bodies, to the seasons and the activities around us.

Yin qualities can be referred to as more feminine, internal, passive, cooling and downward and calming while Yang is more masculine, external, dynamic, warming and energetic. .

Yin and Yang are relative to each other and one cannot exist without the other, you can’t have night (Yin) without day (Yang) The two elements and energies make up the whole.

Many of us live a more active lifestyle referred to as (Yang-oriented) with lots of external stimulation, long working hours and trying to get everywhere fast and multi-tasking.

This isn’t all bad news, we get things done and have a lot of fun on the way. However, eventually we can run the risk of becoming overstimulated and can then experience a burnout or we start to experience health problems. So we need to balance this with more Yin activities – taking some time out, stretching the body in different ways and connecting with our bodies on a more holistic perspective to connect with our inner wisdom mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically so we can experience quietness and calmness.

The class will include dynamic, active sequence working on alignment for building strength and fitness followed by slower quieter postures that will work the deeper joints and connective tissue that will help calm the nervous system.
